Unveiled – 190mph Audi RS6 Avant
This year sees the triumphant return of the RS6 to Audi’s line-up. For £77,000 you can own this practical 190mph super-estate.
Out with the old and in with the new. The 5.0 litre twin-turbo V10 has been replaced with a new 4.0 litre twin-turbo V8 TFSI engine, not only is the engine smaller but it also loses 28bhp.
Do not fear, eventhough the engine is smaller the new RS6 has more torque (700Nm), weighes less and is quicker to 62mph than it’s predecessor.
Hitting 62ph is just 3.9 seconds, the new RS6 will carry on to a limited 189mph if you decide to take the optional dynamic package. If not, the RS6 is electronicaly limited to either 174mph or 155nph.
Audi claim the new RS6 is 100kg lighter than the previous model. the addition of features such as Start-Stop technology and cyclinder deactiviation (which shuts down half of the cyclinder under normal loads) means the new RS6 can acheive a very respectable 28.8mpg improving the car’s economy by 40%.
This is the first RS model to be fitted with air-suspension, but for the hardcore fans out there the standard steel suspension can supplied. Also a new sports exhaust is available, the exhaust is fitted with valves which can be opened by the driver at a touch of button, making the engine more vocal.
The new RS6 will be available to order from Spring 2013 with the first deliveries due in the summer.
